Where this component came from.

We built it for annnimate.com, our own site, and kept it in the library once it earned its place. The same code runs in production today.

The craft

How it's built.

The first version I built was a normal stepper, a minus, a number and a plus, and only the digits moved. It worked but nothing about it told you how full it was. So the pill itself became the gauge: the ink half slides across as you press plus and draws back as you press minus, and the two buttons live inside those halves. The one you can't use anymore gets pushed to the edge and mostly out of view, so you feel the limit from the shape before anything is greyed out. The minus and plus also change size with the room they have, small when squeezed against the edge and bigger when they own most of the pill, and every press lands with a soft bounce instead of a hard stop.

The number beside it rolls the way you'd expect, up when you add and down when you take away, and the line total rolls with it. Hold a button and it keeps counting, faster the longer you hold. Past that it's yours: set the range and the step, the price behind the total, and how springy the slide is.
